Welcome! My name is Jule Schatz (she/her) pronounced you-la shots. I love teaching and mentoring students in introductory computer science. My goal is to help every student feel welcomed, capable, and supported in their exploration of the field.
**My last name will change September 12th 2026 to Legende.

This is my
dog Maymay! She even gets her own chair.

I love traveling and painting! This is me painting out of the back of my car in upstate New York.

I enjoy being active! My current favorite activity is boxing. Just hitting a bag though, no people!
Teaching
I started teaching computer science as an undergrad student in 2015 and have loved it ever since!
I've taught in C++, C, python, and Java covering many topics including introductory computer science (loops, if-statements, functions, ect.), data structures, systems, and artificial intelligence.
Fall 2026 I am teaching CS 340.
Spring 2027 I am teaching CS 128 again. See website for more details.
Interested in learning memory foundations in C++? Check out my Coursera course which is free for UIUC students. This is a great way to prepare for CS 340.
Check out the "Teaching" tab in the tool bar for more!
